General Flora D. Darpino Should Resign
On September 4, 2013, Brigadier General Flora D. Darpino became the first female Army Judge Advocate in the history of the Army. She is this month’s “poster woman” depicted on the cover page of the American Military Retirees’ Association magazine under the headline “Women in Military History: Brothers and Sisters.” (Spring 2014, Volume 40, Issue 2).
My sister? I don’t think so, General Darpino! Traitor! Sinclair’s case (https://www.disabledveterans.org/2014/03/21/general-sinclair-money-power-respect/) exemplifies the problem within the military justice system when it comes to bringing justice to victims of military sexual assault and sexual harassment. Sadly enough, this miscarry of military justice happened under the auspice of female Army General Flora Darpino and speaks volumes to the moral crisis in our military forces today. With Sinclair’s plea bargaining, the oppression and sexual assault of men and women has reached new “below-bottom” levels. The scenario of Sinclair’s acquittal under Darpino’s watch is the typical “case scenario” of how a corrupted system uses power to entice leaders to use their “positional” power to sustain and perpetuate a system of oppression, corruption, and injustice.
Today I call on General Darpino to reflect on her position as the Army Judge Advocate, her actions or inactions, and the real place she wants in history for herself. General Darpino, are you going to be used as an instrument to perpetuate a system of corruption and oppression that denies justice to the men and women who sacrifice their families and their personal safety to serve in the ranks of your institutions? Perhaps, if you took a minute of your busy time, picked up the phone tonight and had a heart to heart conversation with another “Poster Girl,”
http://www.postergirlthemovie.com/, you will gain great insight as to why I call on your immediate resignation, without regret or hesitation. Resign, general, resign! For it is not the star that you hold in your uniform that is important and gives you power, but the light that it brings to the troops in times of darkness. General Darpino, let your star shine and be the beacon of light on this day of darkness and injustice.
Resist the temptation and don’t allow your start to be tainted by an institution that has lost its moral compass and entices you with promises of promotions and self-servicing motives. I will give you the benefit of doubt, General Darpino. You are different and your moral courage is intact! Resign, general, resign!
