While not all that is said is true, not all that is truth is told.
Murderer of Victor Jara; Piñera has a moral duty to ask Obama to extradite Barrientos.
Open Letter to Chilean President Sebastián PiñeraMr. Sebastián Piñera President of Chile Dear Mr President,
Given your meeting scheduled for June 4 with President Barack Obama, we as members of the Congress of Chile demand that you intercede on behalf of our justice system to expedite Chile’s extradition request for Pedro Pablo Barrientos Nunez, who is sought in connection with the treacherous murder in 1973 of singer Victor Jara.
According to what has been established by the Chilean justice system, Barrientos is directly responsible for the death of Victor Jara, who faced horrific torture at the hands of military personnel, and then was killed with multiple bullets using a high level of cruelty while held at the sports stadium formerly known as Estadio Chile.
In December 2012, Chilean Judge Miguel Vazquez formerly charged Barrientos and sought his arrest in the state of Florida in the United States. Subsequently the Chilean Supreme Court ruled on the extradition request, based on a bilateral treaty between Chile and the United States in existence for more than 100 years, and given both countries are subject to provisions of the 1933 Inter-American Convention on Extradition signed in Montevideo.
The extradition order, despite having been approved by the Supreme Court in January this year, has not been acted on, despite knowing the address of Barrientos in the city of Deltona, Florida. For this reason, we demand that you support the decision of the Supreme Court of Chile by directly asking President Obama to immediately comply with the extradition request so the legal process can formally determine his responsibility for the murder of Victor Jara, a case considered a crime against humanity and imprescriptible.
